CECAFA 2015: Group B

  • Kenya 1-1 Burundi

Kenya and Burundi shared the spoils in a Group B tie of the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia.

Amissi Tambwe shoot the Burundi Swallows ahead before Michael Olunga paid back in similar currency for the equalizer as neither of the two sides could again find the back of the net once more.

Tambwe had the easiest of all tap-ins, converting a Didier Kavumbagu well laid ball past goalie Omar Mbongi in the 11th minute of the game.

Four minutes to the half time break, Jacob Keli headed Clifton Miheso’s delivery in Olunga’s path and the Engineer as he is christened made no mistake to beat the advancing goalkeeper, David Nshimirimana for the equalizer.

It was the first time ever that Olunga scored for the Harambee Stars and the match ended in a stalemate.

Kenya leads Group B of the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, the same pool where Uganda and Zanzibar are, on goal difference.

Burundi is joint top with Kenya on 4 points with Kenya as the 13 time CECAFA winners, Uganda lie 3rd with 3 points whilst Zanzibar is without a point.

Uganda plays Burundi on Saturday in the last group game at Awasswa stadium, at the same time Kenya will take on Zanzibar.
