CECAFA 2015: 2nd Quarter-final

2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup hosts, Ethiopia eliminated Tanzania 4-3 in the penalty shoot out (after a 1 all draw on normal time) during the second quarter final match played at the National Stadium in Addis Ababa on Monday evening.

The Kilimanjaro Stars kick-started the game on a bright note, taking the lead on 24 minutes through team skipper John Bocco’s header.

Another captain, Gathouch Panom was on the mark, scoring from 12 yards after Shomari Kapombe had fouled Mohammed Naser in the forbidden area.

Normal time ended 1-1 and penalties had to separate the two sides.

Gatoch Panom, Mohammed Nassir, Aschalew Tamene and Behailu Girma scored for the Walias whilst Himid Mao, John Bocco and Hassen Ramadan were on target for Tanzania.

Meanwhile, Jonas Mkude and Shomari Kapombe missed for Tanzania.

The Ethiopian Walias will face the 13 time record tournament winners, Uganda Cranes in the semis on Thursday.

Uganda had earlier beaten CECAFA guest nation, Malawi 2-0 in the first semi final on the day.

Uganda’s team captain, Faruku Miya and Ceaser Okhuti scored for the Cranes.
