The first part of the Chess world cup qualifiers ended on Sunday, 6th December at Hotel Africana with record winner Harold Wanyama leading the log in the Rwabushenyi memorial chess open.
After winning all four games in the first four rounds of the open, defending champion Harold Wanyama looks well placed to retain the title if the current form is any thing to go by.
A confident Wanyama said;
I am in for this title. Winning my fourth title will be such an incredible achievement. I know that I can retain it because I have done it before and I’m also on form.
Haruna Nsubuga the 8th seeded lad comes second on the table having also recorded maximum points in the first four games.
A victory in this edition will see him win his first ever Rwabushenyi memorial Chess open.
Both Arthur Segwanyi the top seeded Ugandan and Amos Emojong saw their chances of winning it diminish after drawing and losing one game respectively.
The duo has each won the open once. The last phase of the qualifiers returns next weekend [11th, 12th, December] at Hotel Africana.
