Former Uganda Cranes star Jackson ‘Mia Mia’ Mayanja has been named assistant coach at Tanzania giant club Simba SC.

This was confirmed to Kawowo Sports by the club’s head of information Sunday Manara in a brief interview.

Manara said that the process to appoint the ex-Kagera Sugar and Coastal Union tactician was after a number of consultations and the technical bench was greatly involved.

It was a transparent process that complied with all procedures and professionalism. We wanted someone so appropriate and fit for the job and we discovered that Mayanja had all the attributes.

The former Bunamwaya (now Vipers SC) coach takes over from Suleiman Matola who left the club two months ago.

A former league winner with KCCA FC and Uganda topflight joint top scorer in 1997 will deputize English man Dylan Kerr.

Though details of the deal remained scanty, Kawowo Sports has learnt that the ex-El Masry attacking midfielder penned a one year renewal contract based on performance.

Mayanja immediately starts assignment and is likely to be on the bench as Simba face off with his former employers Kagera Sugar in the semi-finals of the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar.
