Uganda Cranes international Farouk Miya won his first silverware with Standard Liege as they lifted their Belgium Cup title on Sunday.
Miya may have not played a part in the game but was on the bench as Standard Liege defeated Club Brugge 2-1 through goals by Jean-Luc Dompe in the 18 minutes and Ivan Santini with two minutes left on the clock.
The triumph over the cup holders came a week after missing out on play-offs.
The cup glory handed Liege a ticket to next seasons UEFA Europa League.
Standard Liege hadn’t won the title since 2011 when they defeated K.V.C. Westerlo 2-0 in the finals.
The Belgian Cup is the main knockout football competition in Belgium, run by the Belgian Football Association. The first cup was held in 1911-12.
The most successful cup club is Club Brugge KV with 11 titles followed by RSC Anderlecht (9) and Standard de Liège.
Miya is one of the Cranes 30 man squad summoned for national duty in the up coming 2017 AFCON qualifiers double header with Burkina Faso
