With the 2016 National Chess League commencing this weekend at Hotel Africana, Kampala, DMark’s Walter Okas is geared up for the season.
Rated 2258, Okas is among the high-quality players at the club who are aiming at winning their fifth successive league title.
While he is targeting to help his team defend the title they won last year, Okas is aware of the improvements at other clubs especially their close rivals and he believes its going to be a tough call defending the title.
“Its going to be a sterner this time around” he commented. “Kireka and City have beefed up their squads and I know they are out to prove a thing or two. They have beefed up to show that we’re beatable but we are also ready”
DMark harbours some of the best players in the country, among them are IM Arthur Ssegwanyi and FM Patrick Kawuma. They are without a doubt the best team in the league.
However, Okas is not taking anything for granted and urges his teammates to do the same.
“We know we have a good squad but we have to prove it. we have to prove that we’re immovable”
The league starts this Sunday 12th June.
