DMARK extended their winning streak this season to six games by beating Bank of Uganda 3½:1½ and Makindye Chess Club 4½:½ in the National Chess League on Sunday at Hotel Africana.

DMARK won three out of five in the fifth round and it was enough for them to best Bank of Uganda.

Although Fide Master, Patrick Kawuma shared spoils with Bank of Uganda’s best player, Allan Mathias Sonko in board one and Benjamin Magana lost to David Muwanguzi, DMARK’s other representatives didn’t disappoint as they won the remaining three boards to overcome the bankers.

With Kawuma and Magana returning to winning ways, the defending champions beat Makindye 4½:½ in the sixth round to maintain their lead at the top of table.

Kireka dislodged Aviation Chess Club from the second position by beating them 4½:½ in the sixth round. Earlier in round five, the title contenders had seen off their opponent, Makindye with the same score.

FM, Harold Wanyama, was facing his former club for the first time since parting ways and it was him who came out victorious.

Board four apart, Kireka won all their boards in both rounds.

In other selected results, City Chess Club who’s title ambitions died a fortnight ago drew and won against SOM academy and Kyambogo University respectively.

Mulago Kings beat both Mengo Chess Club and Aviation to rise up to third in the league standings.

In the best player’s category, City’s Christine Namaganda leads the table with a 100% record. Namaganda has won all her six games.

DMARK still lead the league standings with 12 points while Kireka closely follow with 11 points.
