In what will go down in the history of Uganda’s football as one of the well attended sports press conferences, newly promoted Uganda Premier League club, Onduparaka F.C has officially unveiled a shirt sponsor.
The sponsor unveiling was done in the heart of the capital city, Kampala on Tuesday at Tropical Restaurant near Arua Park.
Whereas the two parties had a prior agreement to keep the nitty-gritty of the partnership between the betting company and the club unknown, the media personnel nearly lost their patience until the club chairman let the cat out of the bag.
“We have agreed that they facilitate our budget which is to the tune of 180M (Equipment and Transport). Other details will come later”
Anton Opperman, the Company’s Country Manager in Uganda expressed his delight to associate with Onduparaka.
“Onduparaka has the most passionate fans in the country and our investment is worth a fortune,” Opperman explained to the media.
The Arua club joined Bright Stars as the only two clubs to have played every division prior to being promoted to the top tier division.
“We want to change the face of football in Uganda. Onduparaka has a national outlook and it is one club worth to associate with. We are setting the trend professionally,” Club chairman Benjamin told the media.
At the same press conference was the Anyivu Member of Parliament Bernard Atiku, club CEO Anthony Afeti among others.
Onduparaka host their home games at the Green Light Stadium in Arua Municipality and this coming Friday the Caterpillars as they are fondly known will host Soana in their first game of the top flight.
The Caterpillars made the top flight grade after topping the Elgon Group of the FUFA Big League.
They are famed for their cheerful crowd that sings from the onset of the game to its collapse.
