Dennis Rukundo made his return to the Premier League but this time with reigning champions KCCA FC on Tuesday in the team’s fifth league game as he made his maiden appearance for his new club, and the right back felt terrific about his debut performance.
KCCA head coach Mike Mutebi left his captain Dennis Okot on the bench and handed his new signing his first club appearance and the fullback couldn’t shy away from expressing his delight.
“It went well for me,” Rukundo formerly at Maroons told Kawowo sports after the game. “It gets easier when you have Awanyi, Kavuma, Ochaya and all these guys by your side trying to make things easy and simpler for you. I felt good and protected and didn’t feel pressured,” he added.
Having fallen prey to league debutants Onduparaka at the Green Light stadium on match day four, pressure was on the defending champions to prove they can bounce back from their first defeat.
It was a brilliant start for the side that needed to win their game in order to keep their place atop as they created a host of chances, but Mutebi’s boys missed numerous opportunities to register a comfortable win, and the coach could only witness his side endure a nervy ending as The Saints kept pushing for an equalizer.
However, they managed to hold onto Paul Mucherezi’s first half strike to beat Moses Basena’s side1-0.
“It was very important to win today. We needed this win and personally, if the team can win with me on pitch, it makes me feel I have added something valuable. Not the kind of result we wanted but we can take the win.”
KCCA travel to Jinja on Saturday for a date with Bul FC who beat Express 1-0 at Wankulukuku on Tuesday.
