Proline 1-2 Soana

Two first half goals from crafty winger Allan Kayiwa and Uganda Cranes striker Frank ‘Machette’ Kalanda propelled Soana to a resounding 2-1 victory over Proline in a Uganda Premier League encounter played at Lugogo on Friday evening.

The heavens set loose as the players walked to the turf for the mandatory pre-match customs at the Phillip Omondi astro turf in Lugogo, Kampala.

Fahad Aziz Bayo headed the home side ahead in the 26th minute off a pin point cross from left back Simon Namwanja.

The joy was however short lived – thanks to the innovativeness of winger Allan Kayiwa.

Kayiwa dribbled past a forest of legs before latching a low drive over the advancing goalie Saidi Keni for the equalizer two minutes to the half hour mark.

Soana suffered a set back in the 34th minute when team skipper Timothy Musinguzi was stretched off with an injury.

In came, Samuel Oguttu who assumed the captaincy role as well for the time being.

As the two sides looked destined for the locker-rooms all square, a well stationed Frank Kalanda diverted with the left foot a high cross from Kayiwa down the left for the lead.

As the second half resumed, Soana called for their second change of the day when former KCCA winger Siraje Turyamureemba came in for Ex-SC Villa’s Misi Katende at right back.

Osman Wejuli became the first player to be booked for a deliberate handball

Gift Ali tested Soana goalie Muhammad Didi with two free-kicks from 20 yards missing target by inches.

Rahamat Kagimu header smashed the post following a great curling effort from Davis Ssali on the right.

Proline then called for the first and only change of the game that witnessed former KCCA striker, Nelson Senkatuka replace the opening goal hero Fahad Aziz Bayo with 20 minutes to play.

Solid defending from the visitors for the rest of the game guaranteed Sam Ssimbwa’s charges a deserved victory, one that assures them of a third place slot, at least for now.

Soana has the same number of points (20) as second placed Vipers who drew goal-less with Sadolin Paints at Bugembe stadium on Friday evening
