UCU 's Brian Namake goes past City Oilers Jimmy Enabu (L) and Ben Komakech

Wednesday Fixtures (Lugogo):

A1 Challenge vs. UCU Lady Canons -6pm

UCU Canons vs. City Oilers -8pm

After a 70-54 loss to City Oilers in game one of the semifinals, UCU Canons have not one but two more chances to get back into the series.

The University side competed well with the defending champions until the final 3 minutes of the fourth quarter when Oilers’ team depth made the difference between the two sides that played the finals last year.

“The good thing with playoffs is that you have another chance,” UCU shooting guard Steve Wundi revealed to Kawowo Sports after game one.

While history shows that the Canons have never been swept in any series since joining the league, it would not be a surprise if the 3-time champions put a stop to that because of the resources available.

Small forward Brian Namake, Jonathan Egau and Fadhil Chuma found themselves in foul trouble early in the third quarter and had to take spells on the bench which made it even easier for Mandy Juruni’s side.

Kami Kabange led Oilers offence with 17 points in game one while Jonah Otim had 13 to give the defending champions the advantage. Ben Komakech and Jimmy Enabu had 9 points each.

Wundi and Chuma, who led the Canons with 10 points apiece, will have to do more if the Mukono outfit is to level the series tonight at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.

“They are a good side and they compete well so we have to stay focused,” Otim said of the opponents ahead of the game.

In the ladies category, UCU Lady Canons will have a chance of stretching their lead when they take on A1 Challenge in the second of the 5-game series.

Nick Natuhereza’s charges overcame a terrible start to win the game and take the lead.
