Beat UCU Canons’ zone defense and you will not have just a chance but near certainty of beating the youthful and athletic university side.

City Oilers did exactly that on Wednesday night and the outcome was an 86-73 win to take a 2-0 series command heading into Game 3 on Sunday.

City Oilers back court of Ben Komakech and Jimmy Enabu opened the game from down town and the defending champions led 13-4 with just over two minutes of the quarter played.

With his side trailing 15-5, Nicholas Natuhereza was forced to call for a time out of the floor which was followed by a lay-up from Jonathan Egau but Enabu drained a 3 pointer in response and Oilers led 24-16 at the end of the frame.

Canons were reactive in the second quarter, got right back in the game with a 6-0 run to start the period and led for the first time (33-32) on Steven Wundi’s couple of free throws with 3 minutes to play but trailed 44-42 at the half.

Kamakech, Enabu and Kami Kabange took charge of third quarter for City Oilers and the lead was in double figures (66-55) heading into the fourth and all was nothing but done as the university side could not recover in the last ten minutes.

Jimmy Enabu poured in 30 points, picked 5 rebounds and assisted 5 baskets on the night to lead City Oilers. Ben Komakech added 18 points and 6 assist while Kami Kabange had 16 points and Landry Ndikumana chipped in with 12.

Steven Wundi who barely touched the ball in his zone in the third quarter scored team high 16 points for Canons, Isaiah Ater contributed 12 while Brian Namake had 11.

Game 3 is on Sunday.
