In a bid to develop, promote and popularize the game of Chess in the eastern part of the country, Woman Fide Master Christine Namaganda is set to establish a chess training facility in Jinja.

The three time Olympian aims at discovering and nurturing young talent while availing basic training materials like Chess boards, Chess books, Chess clocks to the locals with primary schools her main target.

Busoga region, known for producing elite chess players like current top two seeds in East Africa, International Masters Arthur Ssegwanyi and Elijah Emojong, the rated 1604 thinks if attended to, the region could produce more strong guys.

Speaking to Kawowo Sports, Namaganda, a six time National Chess champion said;

I’m taking Chess back to Busoga Region. Years back, Busoga schools produced best chess players.

Most top Chess players studied in Busoga Region so if it goes back, maybe we could have even more strong guys and also, these juniors could serve as competition to the current strong guys.

The national chess team coach Bob Bibasa, the country’s number three seed Walter Okas, Kireka Chess Club’s most consistent player last season Simon Gonza are some of the top chess players in the country who attended schools in Jinja.

Namaganda hopes to start her project early next year.
