The Saints 0-1 Onduparaka
A first half goal from newly crowned Player of the Year Shaban Muhammed settled the contest between The Saints and Onduparaka on Saturday at Bombo Barracks play ground.
The league debutants secured their first away win in the Uganda Premier league.
The visitors got off to a brilliant start and could have gone in front inside ten minutes when Gaddafi Gaddinho’s cross found an onrushing Living Kabon, but Onduparaka’s ‘Messi’ saw his strike go inches wide.
However, the Caterpillars did not wait for so long to celebrate as the winning goal arrived two minutes later after Gaddafi, operating from the right wing did some excellent work and squared the ball to the waiting Shaban to tap home the winner.
The Saints could have equalized moments later but Ezekiel Katende blasted the ball over the bar from eighteen yards.
Moses Basena’s charges were the dominant side in the second half, but were undone by poor finishing. Rodgers Aloro in particular will feel guilty for squandering a glorious opportunity in the 54th minute after being smartly set up by Paul Dumba.
The visiting team ended the game strongly with the trio of Gaddafi, Shaban and substitute Farouk Kawooya all asking questions.
After being fouled by Marlon Tangawuzi at the edge of the box, Gaddifi should have made it two with ten minutes remaining had his curling free-kick met goalkeeper Alex Mugabi sleeping. The custodian punched wide the effort to keep the score at 1-0.
The result elevated Onduparaka to the fourth position with 21 points, one above current Uganda Cup holders Vipers.
Meanwhile The Saints who have found it difficult to win games at home remained positioned tenth with 15.
