The Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) senior pool league title (men) was decided on a rare Tuesday match day when Scrap Yard overcame Hot Pool 13-7 at Lumas pool arena in Kampala.
Scrap Buyers’ Salim Akankwasa and Joseph Mutawe won their opening frames against Alfred Gumikiriza and Habib Ssebuguzi respectively to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
However, the games moved neck to neck and scores were twice leveled at 3-3 and 5-5 until Andrew Kabubi widened the hosts’ leading valley in the 12th frame with a juicy game against Gumikiriza to make it 7-5 before halftime.
After the Break, Hotpool earned a win to equalize but Scrap Buyers got 5 Straight wins to make it 12-7 and tasked to look for one more game in the remaining 6 frames to seal victory.
Ivan Kanyesigye came off the bench to notch in the winner against Hotpool’s Paul Wasike in the 21st frame to dislodge Skin Samona’s two years’ senior league dominance.
After Tuesday’s triumph, Club captain Wasswa Kayiya is now senior League’ most decorated player after clinching his 8th Title.
Wasswa won his first title with DV8 in 2005 before joining Samona where he won five trophies.
In 2013 Wasswa joined Scrap Yard and lifted the season’s championship.
In the ladies category, club captain Justine Nampebwa and Mirembe Sharon needed no sweat to defeat Scrap Buyers 2-7 as Hotpool recorded its first ever ladies league title.
Both players won 3/3 and the other was brought by Carol Kanzira to complete a winners’ champagne night jubilation at Lumas pool Arena.
