Uganda Cranes utility player, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda drew lots of lessons from the international friendly match against Tunisia Carthage Eagles at the El Menzah Olympic Stadium in Tunis.

Although the home team won 2-0 on the day, Mawanda, who has recently completed a move to Lebanese side Nejmeh Football Club learned several lessons.

In an interview with FUFA FM shortly after the game, Mawanda spoke of the significance of the game;

The match was a great test for us. We knew where exactly our team stands. We gave our best in that particular match and believe me, we shall correct the mistakes seen.

Mawanda staged a phenomenal display at the heart of defence where he played alongside Isaac Isinde in the first half and with Timothy Awany in the second.

Under chilly conditions, Uganda fell to Hamza Lahmar’s well curled free-kick inside the opening 10 minutes before conceding in similar fashion on the 47th minute when Ali Maaloul delivered a perfect free-kick from the right that Mohamed Ali Yâakoubi headed past KCCA Benjamin Ochan. Ochan had moments earlier replaced Jamal Salim.

On set piece situations, Mawanda and his teammates learned a lesson or two;

We shall avoid as much as possible to foul near the goal area. But better still, how to position when defending the delivered balls into our goal area.

Uganda left Tunisia on Thursday night and set foot in Dubai where they will hold another training camp.

In Dubai, they are expected to play three test matches against Slovenia (closed door), Slovakia and Cote D’Ivoire.

According to the latest Player Transform Matching System, Wasswa is now a player for Nejmeh F.C for a two year tenure.

He will join the Lebanese side in February 2017 shortly after the AFCON duty in Gabon with the Uganda Cranes.

Wasswa is among the 23 players selected by Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic to represent the country at the biennial footballing fiesta, where Uganda is making a return after a 38 year absence.
