
Five days after Uganda Cranes and Denis Onyango scooped the national team of the year and the African Player of the Year – based in Africa respectively; the Ugandan Parliament has moved a motion to congratulate them.
This was at a seating on Tuesday January 5, presided over the Speaker Hon. Rebecca Kadaga with the Parliament Football Team Captain, Hon: Hamson Dennis Obua moving a motion before it was second by Shadow Minister for Sports and Creative Arts, Hon: Allan Ssewanyana and Connie Nakayenze Galiwango – Chairperson Parliamentary on Education and Sports.
“We should appreciate Dennis Onyango by erecting a statute to honour him for his achievements,” stated Ssewanyana, a renowned sports fan and a former Vice Chairman at KCCA FC.
Proposal to reward Cranes also passed
At the plenary, the members of parliament agreed to reward Uganda Cranes with Ugx. 500,000 ($ 150) from each of the over 400 members.
Ssewanyana had moved a motion in October 2016 in the aftermath of the Cranes qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and he is glad his proposal was passed by the members.
I would like to thank fellow members of parliament including the speaker of parliament for supporting my proposal which i proposed last October 2016 of each member contributing 500000 shillings to make it 265 million as contribution to Uganda Cranes in appreciation for their qualification to Afcon 2017.
Kadaga promised to deliver the cheque to the national team in Gabon where The Cranes will play against Ghana, Mali and Egypt in the group stages.
