2017 Shooters Pool Open Winners:

Hazard Lukomwa and Mariam Nannyonga smiled last and widest as they won the 2017 Shooters Pool Open Championship held at Club Klein in Nyendo, Masaka.

Recently signed for big spending C.K.I Pool Club, Lukomwa was in scintillating form and unstoppable through out the well-attended championship.

He overcame Mansuur Muto in the earlier round, Simon Lubulwa in the last 8 stage.

Come the semi-final, Lukomwa whipped Ivan Kanyesigye 5-1 in a fast and furious duel before overcoming Dan Mubiru 7-3 in the final.

Mubiru, too, had overcame a couple of nervy moments when he ejected Amos Ndyagumanawe 5-1 in the quarterfinals and later the reigning national open champion, Sula Matovu in the semi-finals.

The men’s third place playoff match witnessed a ruthless Kanyesigye humiliate Matovu 6-1.

In the ladies category, Mariam Nanyonga was impressive as she came twice from two blacks down to defeat her opponents.

Nanyonga had recovered from 3-1 down against Carol Kanzira before forcing a deserved 4-3 comeback win in the tournament’s semifinal stage.

In a slow paced final, another C.K.I’s mobile star Naiga Lukia slumbered from a 5-2 lead to a shocking 5-6 loss against Nanyonga.

Icon Pool Club’s Mutesi Judith ended in as a third runner up after losing to Kanzira in the second place playoff match.

A total of 150 participants in both men and ladies categories took part in the event.

The men’s category winner pocketed Shs3M and Shs1.5M went to the women’s category winner.
