SC Villa ended a three-match winless streak with a slim but important 1-0 win over Sadolin Paints at Nakivubo on Sunday afternoon.

Emmanuel Okwi struck the winner after 23 minutes with a beauty of a free kick that earned new head coach, Wasswa Bbosa a debut win in the club hot seat.

Bbosa made a couple of changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Lweza last week with Abel Eturude, John Adriko and Paul Mbowa all starting.

Ambrose Kirya featured in the number 10 role behind Okwi with Alex Kitaata, reportedly unhappy at the club missing from the match day squad.

The hosts started well with Okwi, Martin Kizza, Mike Ndera and Kirya asking all sorts of questions but were lethargic until the 23rd minute when they won a free kick outside the area.

Okwi curled it past the wall and it kissed the bar before settling into the net to send the crowd into jubilation.

It awakened the hosts who started to press and play with purpose but the Blues defended well especially in the second half when the Painters threw everything at them.

The 16-time champions closed the gap on KCCA to one point with 37 points but have played two more games than the Kasasiro.

Sadolin Paints, 17 points in 18 games are now fourth from bottom and only one point off safety.
