A second half strike from striker Anthony Mayanja ensured that relegation battling Kirinya-Jinja S.S takes home the maximum points against Vipers SC at a fully packed Kakindu Stadium in Jinja town on Friday.

Mayanja tapped home in the 58th minute of the game after a well laid ball from Isaac Ntege on the left.

For long spells of the game, the hosts remained the better side with a large chunk of the ball possession as the visitors relied on quick counter attacks.

Erisa Ssekisambu’s headed attempted onto goalie Tom Ikara’s bar with 10 minutes was the closest moment Vipers had to at least return with a goal.

The introduction of Kezironi Kizito, Brian Kakaire and Alfred Leku for Moses Waiswa, Mike Sserumaga and Brian Nkuubi respectively added pace and urgency in the game.

Kirinya-Jinja S.S technical bench headed by Abbey Bogere ‘Capello’ Kikomeko replaced industrious winger James Otim with defender Moses Kamya with less than 10 minutes to play as he worked towards consolidating the lead.

Later, winger Ibrahim Kazindula came in for goal hero Mayanja as the minutes trickled down the drain.

There were ugly scenes towards the end of the game when fans hid the match day balls in a bid to waste time and possibly cool down the tempo of the game as Vipers sought for the much needed equalizer that never materialized.

The loss is the first for Vipers’ Portuguese coach, Miguel Da Costa, the club’s 4th in 21 matches.

Vipers stays third on the 16 team log with  35 points as Kirinya Jinja S.S also remains 15th with 20 points off 22 matches.
