Nyamityobora head coach Charles Ayeikho insists he is ‘proud’ of his team despite failing to claim one of the playoff spots in the FUFA Big League, but says the team weren’t able to compete favorably in the second round due to ‘lack of motivation.’
Ayeikho’s men occupy the fourth position in the Rwenzori Group with 35 points, five points below third placed Synergy, and with just one game left of play for the side in regular season, the side will finish the campaign placed fourth.
Ayeikho was keen to accentuate the positives in spite of their failure to secure one of the playoff positions.
“We have had a wonderful season,” Ayeikho who joined the side last year said of their campaign. “This was our first season in the Big League but we surprised many. I think most people will agree with me that we brought something different in the Big League. We were a surprise package.
“Although we lost our magic in the second round partly due to lack of motivation to players because some of the officials who would motivate players left the club, I think we did very well.
“Even as debutants in the Big League, we’ve been aiming high. Our target was to earn promotion and we always fought so hard to achieve that. We have missed it, but I’m not going to blame anyone because as a club, we have all been fighting for one thing; earn promotion to the Uganda Premier League. I’m so proud of my team and hopefully we carry on with the same spirit for the coming season.”
On whether he’ll renew his contract with the club when his contract expires in July, Ayeikho says: “I have enjoyed working with the club and I’m still enjoying. If the bosses feel they still need me, then I’ll be open to fresh negotiations.
“I have found this place fun, and people here love football and their team. Nyamityobora has huge support in Mbarara.”
