The Xray showing Smith’s broken leg

The reigning Africa Rally Champions Don Smith and Bob Kaugi have pulled out of the South Africa Rally due this weekend.

The Fly Sax driver suffered a broken leg over the weekend forcing his withdrawal from the York Rally.

“Its unfortunate that I will miss this weekend’s York Rally. I broke my leg last weekend and there’s no way I could drive,” says Smith.

Smith and Kaugi were set for their first ARC event this year in Ford Fiesta R2.

“Our main reason to go to South Africa was to test the Ford as well as having fun with the rest of the crews. The Ford was bought in South Africa and it was actually bought for Don’s son,” says Kaugi.

The York Rally is another event Smith will miss after the Safari Rally.

Smith’s withdraw now leaves only six crews to battle out for the ARC points in South Africa.

The ARC contenders include the 2015 ARC champion Jaspreet Chatthe, the Gomes brothers; Kleevan and Leroy, Ismail Shermohamed, Richard Leeke and Japie Van Niekerk.
