
Former Uganda Cranes and SC Villa exciting winger Joseph ‘Jojo’ Kabagambe has signed for Kenya Premier League side Western Stima on a two-year deal.
The player once regarded as the best crosser of the ball after Obadiah Semakula agreed terms with the club on Tuesday before putting pen to paper at the Kisumu-based club.
Kabagambe has been featuring at Sudanese premier side, Al Rabtsa Kosti which he had joined after impressing for Al Merriekh.
He has been a darling in Sudan as he was in Uganda for his trickery on the ball and the perfect execution of pin-point crosses from all ranges.
Quick off the blocks, Kabagembe rose to prominence 16 years ago when his intelligent display while at Kabale side Horizon caught the scouting eye of SC Villa coaches.
He was signed by the Jogoos and his drastic ascendancy witnessed a call up to the Uganda U-23 and Uganda Cranes sides.
He had successful stints in Rwanda before switching allegiance to Sudan where he has since featured for the country’s most successful side El Merriekh, Al-Nil Al-Hasahesa and recently Al Rabtsa Kosti.
The 32-year-old harbors positive thoughts of a great crowning to his largely luminous career.
“I am still focused to serve football with one heart with at least five more seasons of diligent service,” he told Kawowo Sports in an earlier interview at his Zana home.
In Kenya, he joins a string of Ugandan players like Dan Sserunkuma, Brunno Sserunkuma, Umar Kasumba, Moses Feni, Godfrey Walusimbi, Musa Mudde, Patrick Ssenfuka, Allan Kateregga among others.
Who is Kabagambe?
Born Joseph Kabagambe on 3rd September 1984 in Mubare Sub-county, Kabale District, the light skinned footballer is nick-named ‘Nyaru’ for the skin complexion.
He studied at Standard High School, Zzana for his O and A level education with the likes of immensely talented midfielder Abdallah Mallo and Patrick Ochan among others.
Kabagambe began playing football with local sides in Kabale before joining Horizon F.C. in 2000.
He switched to SC Villa a season later for seven seasons winning two league titles in 2003 and 2004.
He was then signed by Rwandan giants then Atraco Football Club between 2009 and 2010, winning one championship.
After three seasons, he switched to Sudan where he has since featured at El Merriekh, Al-Nil Al-Hasahesa and currently Al Rabtsa Kosti.
He is famous for the delightful and sweet cross off the treasured right foot.
Kabagambe fulfilled the life time ambition of representing his country when he was summoned to the Uganda Cranes in 2008.
He finally made his debut in 2008 against Niger in the AFCON qualifiers.
