The last time Uganda Cranes played against Cape Verde, Geoffrey Sserunkuma scored the winner at Namboole.

The centre forward scored in the 36th minute against the Islanders on June 18, 2005 and like Denis Onyango, he is in the squad to face the same team 12 years later.

Speaking from Praia on the eve of the game, the KCCA forward revealed he wants to score against the side as well but also asked for Ugandans to rally behind the side by sending prayers.

“What Ugandans need to do now is send us prayers,” said Sserunkuma. “As players, we are set, in good shape and the coach has done his part after being together for a week,” he added.

I scored against them (Cape Verde) in 2006 and at whatever time the coach calls up on me, I will utilise the opportunity to score against them again.

The league top scorer is one of the seven players that arrived in Praia with the rest expected to join them on match day.

He reveals that the coach gave them a training programme to follow in order to stay in fine shape.

For us who already arrived, the coach gave us a training programme we have followed and only wait for our colleagues to join in.

Uganda Cranes lost their previous visit to Cape Verde 1-0 thanks to a 42nd minute goal by Arlindo Gomes Semedo.
