KCCA FC’s easy 2-0 victory against Paidha in the 43rd Uganda Cup final in a rare Thursday game at the Green Light stadium in Arua meant a lot for the club.

First things first, KCCA won their 9th title to get within closer reach of the record winners, Express who have claimed 10 crowns since 1971.

KCCA also claimed their first domestic double in the rich history of the club founded in 1963.

Against Paidha Black Angels, a second division outfit, Mike Mutebi’s charges required an early strike from the veteran tried and test forward Geoffrey Sserunkuma in the 10th minute.

Sserunkuma was well positioned to slot home the opener after defender Joel Mundua mis-kicked a would be timed clearance.

The goal silenced the capacity crowd at the stadium that included the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and the city Executive Director, Jenifer Ssemakula Musisi.

Tournament top scorer Derrick Nsibambi, scorer of a hat-trick against Lungunjja Galaxy in their Round of 32 tie netted home the second in the 56th minute.

Nsibambi raced to a long ball played from right back and captain Dennis Okot Oola to loop the ball into the net over the advancing goalkeeper Saidi Data.

From this point on wards, Paidha Black Angels did not recover.

Mutebi beefed up the team when he replaced Muzamiru Mutyaba for a blocking midfielder Isaac Kirabira.

Paul Musamali, who had been booked in the first half was replaced by Habibu Kavuma and the age-less winger Vincent Kayizzi paved way for Dennis Rukundo.

The final whistle from FIFA referee Denis Batte left lasting smiles from the traveling KCCA crowd, the gaffer Mutebi and the players alike.

The KCCA faithful lived to witness their club win the maiden club domestic double during a red letter season, Mutebi joined the class of coaches to have lifted the double and senior players as Sserunkuma and Kayizzi won their second Uganda Cup titles after the 2004 heroics.
