National Basketball League returnees Nkumba Marines used an explosive fourth quarter to defeat UPDF Tomahwaks 72-63 on Wednesday night at YMCA.
Characteristic of them this term, the 2006 champions started slow and UPDF ran to a 21-11 first quarter as Felix Mukunzi and Moses Muhumuza glided through the paint for easy lay-ups.
Nkumba chipped away in the second quarter and trailed 33-28 at halftime. The effort went on through the third and trailed by just 4 points (46-42) at the end of the period.
As Tomahawks froze at the start of the fourth quarter, Marines were only getting better and quickly took charge of he game on Umar Walugembe’s 3-ball with 8:14 to play and never looked back as they went for a 30 point fourth quarter to claim the victory.
Nerbert Byamukama led Nkumba’s team effort with 14 points, Charles Karamagi and Brian Sivachi contributed 12 points apiece.
Mukunzi scored game high 18 points and Henry Okoth had 14.
