The annual KAVC International tournament will return this year with Ugandan teams vying for top honors against the foreign clubs in August.
The competition was launched on Tuesday morning at the Uganda Olympic Committee offices in Lugogo.
Rwandan teams have made the event their own in the last few years with Ugandan teams struggling to cope with foreign opposition.
Last year, University of Kibungo (UNIK) defeated Sport-S to win the men’s category while Rwanda Revenue Authority made light work of Ndejje Elites to win the ladies’ title.
Organisers KAVC were disqualified at the semifinal stage for using an ineligible player.
Sky were the last Ugandan team to have won the event.
They won it in 2014, before being promoted to the National Volleyball League.
“We expect the number of teams taking part to increase and we have already reached out to quite a number and only awaiting confirmation,” Amon Ainebyona, the KAVC president revealed.

Women: KAVC A, KAVC B, Ndejje University, Nkumba University, KCCA, Espoir, Vision Volleyball Camp and Sport-S.
Foreign Teams
Men: Rukunzo (Burundi), Aspire, Kenya Pipe Line, Administration Police, GSU (All from Kenya), UNIK, APR, University of Tourism, Rwanda Energy Group (All from Rwanda), Cobra Volleyball club (South Sudan) and Jeshi stars and Mangereza (Tanzania).
Women: Aspire, Kenya Pipeline, KCB (All from Kenya), Rwanda Revenue Authority, APR, Kigali Volleyball Club (All from Rwanda), Jeshi stars and Mangereza (Tanzania).
