A strong squad of nine of the Uganda national woodball team have on Monday commenced residential training in Entebbe.
Team Uganda is preparing for the first ever World Beach Woodball Championships slated for August 9-14, 2017 in Indonesia.
In June this year, the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) initially selected a provisional squad of 23 players for non residential training with their respective clubs.
According to the federation PRO, Namayo Mawerere, the team has been trimmed to nine players.
Africa’s Seed One Lilian Zawedde, Nalubega Joyce, Mukoova Joan, Sandra Nabaggala, Betty Alela and Charity Nagaba are the females on the team.
Reigning USPA male Woodball player of the year Onesmas Atamba, Bruno Bbosa and Israel Muwanguzi are the only 3 male players on the team.
The majority of the players named on the national team are smarting from the recent outstanding performances at the 5th Uganda Woodball International Open Championships hosted at Entebbe.
Uganda dominated the only international event sanctioned by IWbF in Africa.
The national squad initially included, men – Joel AdupA, Faustine Ajoba, Isaac Ariho, Norbert Dramani, William Osire Likiriat, Ronald Kawumba, Franco Kibuule, Gyaviira Lwesabula and Aziz Masimbi.
The women comprised Patricia Najjemba, Ruth Nakazzi, Sophia Namuddu, Regina Namulondo Nsubuga, Mary Nantumbwe and Justine Balemesa.
The team is under Coach George Isabirye and managed by Grace Orone.
