Express ended their unwanted run of results with a deserved a 2-1 victory over Proline on Saturday.
Proline, took a merited lead inside 20 minutes through Fahad Bayo’s fourth goal of the campaign, but the side was pegged back by Daniel Sserunkuma whose tap-in took his tally to five goals this term.
Mujib Kasule’s charges started the match brightly with more possession, however, failed to capitalize on large spells with the ball.
Despite going down early in the game, and many expecting another brilliant performance from the hosts alike their previous home games, the Red Eagles didn’t think of giving up and the equalizer arrived, with Michael Birungi the creator.
Express ended the first half on a high, and straight after the break, the hosts were being put under huge pressure, with their visitors looking to put the game to bed. Sulaiman Jingo side netted while team captain David Ndihabwe saw his chip brilliantly saved by Proline’s goalkeeper Saidi Keni.
The former champions called for their first substitution in the 76th minute and it was Birungi coming off for Mubaraka Nsubuga. Turns out he was making way for the day’s savior.
With Proline on the back foot and Express pushing for the winner, the fourth official showed 2 minutes as added time and inside the first minute, Nsubuga scored from Sserunkuma’s pass.
It was game done for Kasule’s charges as Express ended a run of four games without seeing victory.
The three points lift Express out of the relegation zone. They now sit thirteenth with 11points. Proline, level on points with their day’s tormentor drop a place down to 12th.
In their next games, Proline travel to Kakindu Stadium on Tuesday for a meet with Bul while Express will face table leaders Police at Wankulukuku.
