Olila High School kept their title chances alive with a win over rivals KICC in a rain affected low scoring game.
Olila won the toss and batted first scoring 111 all out with Damalie Busingye (32) in a justy knock off 98 balls getting support from Rachel Ntono (27).
An afternoon downpour threatened to washout the game but after the heavens cleared, KICC was undone by the spin bowling of Sarah Akiteng (4/17) to finish on 59 all out earning Olila High a bowling bonus point in the process.
Team Manager Felix Musana says his team showed grit and character of a champion.
It was a great game and confirmed that ladies teams don’t know how to set scores. Having set such a below par score. I was impressed with the repair work done by our bowling to ensure we win this and stay in the hunt.
Our sensational left arm spinner Sarah Akiteng announced herself on the big stage following her National team call up with 4 key wickets backed up with the ever improving off spinner Gloria Obukour to limit the score to less than 60 which we believe earned us a bowling bonus point.
The win for Olila High means competition for the title is only between them and Jinja SSS and effectively knocks out KICC leaving the race for only 2 teams.
Musana is impressed with the competition in the ladies top flight and he acknowledges his team has spiced up the league.
Am sure the cricket fraternity is impressed with the competition in the ladies league and this is making the ladies game grow tremendously. Rarely has a league race gone to the final day.
Traditionally, when a team had a good run they would win without a challenge. Us as Olila we’ve always wanted to play with the traditional giants and give them a run for their money.
In just our second year we have achieved that and we are more than proud regardless of the final outcome.
Olila High take on Wanderers in their last game while keeping an eye on the Tornado Bee and Jinja SSS fixture.
Table toppers Jinja SSS are in control of the title and a win for them will confirm them as champions but if they slip and Olila High wins then Olila High will win their second title in a single year.
Wanderers gave Pionner a walkover after they showed up late for their game in Buddo, which knocks out Wanderers out of the league race and the free points for Pioneer kept them in the league and confirms the relegation of Tornado Bee.
