City Oilers have been handed a second straight defeat at the on going FIBA Africa Champions Cup.

The Zone V representatives at the premier club competition on the continent fell prey to Association Sportive de Salé’s strong interior presence on Tuesday afternoon.

Robinson Odoch (23 points) got Oilers started with a lay-up followed by Jordin Mayes trey as the Ugandan champions jumped to a quick 5-0 lead.

Salé started to get their groove with Soufiane Kourodu (20 points) finding his place on the inside and Wayne Arnold finding his range on the perimeter powering the Moroccan side to a 24-17 lead after the opening quarter.

Jimmy Enabu (12 points) opened the second quarter from downtown but big man Abderrahim Najah (22 points, 9 rebounds) started to take care of business for Salé at the post – easily dropping turn around jump hooks over Adarius Pegues and Stanley Ocitti and Landry Ndikumana.

However, Enabu and Odoch kept Salé at arms length with their offensive production in the second quarter.

Abdelhakim Zouita (15 points) joined Najah on Salé’s interior party to keep Oilers chasing and the Moroccans had an 8 points (54-46) heading to the final quarter.

Salé’s lead hoovered above 8 points in the fourth quarter with Oilers seemingly running out of steam if their recovery on defense is anything to go by.

Next Games

There’s no time to rest as both teams return to action on Wednesday. Oilers face unbeaten Inter Club while Salé will play Radés.
