Mugabi had been summoned on several occasions bu for several reasons, he had not turned out in the national team colors for a while.

The 22-year-old had received his first call up to the Uganda national football team in August two years ago for a friendly against Kenya and the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Comoros, but was withdrawn from the squad by Yeovil Town with the club citing the short notice of the call-up.

This time round was his second call up and he finally made the cut under new head coach Sebastien Desabre, featuring in defense for nation.

He was replaced by KCCA captain Timothy Awanyi only to get a standing ovation from the fans and a warm handshake from Desabre.

Shortly after the match, Bevis tweeted;

Back at Yeovil, Mugabi became the first contracted Town player in four years to make their senior international debut.

He joined Rhys Browne (Antigua & Barbuda), Shaun Donnellan and Corey Whelan (Republic of Ireland U21s) in leaving Somerset for international duty.

“All at YTFC would like to congratulate Bevis on the achievement,” the club stated on their official website.
