2018 African Women Cup of Nations Qualifier:

The Uganda Crested Cranes (national women football team) contingent of 30 people on Sunday departed by road for Nairobi ahead of the 2018 Women African Cup of Nations qualifier with Kenya on Wednesday.

The group left Kampala by the FUFA bus at around noon led by Chris Kalibala, a FUFA Executive Committee member.

A total of 20 players was named by the head coach Faridah Bulega; to be captained by UCU Lady Cardinals’ player, Hasifa Nassuna.

There are three goalkeepers on the team namely; Ruth Aturo, Daisy Nakaziro and Cissy Nakiguba.

The five defenders are; Viola Namuddu, Grace Aluka, Gladys Nakito, Shadia Nankya and Yudaya Nakayenze.

Eight midfielders are part of this team with the burly Shakirah Mutibwa among them.

Others are; Norah Alupo, Damali Matama, Tracy Akirol Jones, Spencer Nakacwa, Aisia Nakibuuka, Winnie Babirye and Christine Nambirigge.

Team captain Hasifa Nasuna leads the cast of attackers. Other offensive players include; Shamirah Nalujja, Juliet Nalukenge and Zainah Namuleme.

Nassuna, the 2016 FUFA Women Footballer of the year remains optimistic that the team will perform well in Kenya.

As quoted by the FUFA website, she said;

They have beaten us twice but that is past. Our present ambition is also to challenge them that we are also good and can also beat them

Kenya Haraambe Starlets will host Uganda in the first leg of the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifier this Wednesday in Machakos town.
