
Rogers Byaruhanga, maintained his five stroke lead at the 71st Uganda Amateur Golf championship at the par 72 Uganda golf club course at Kitante yesterday.
Byaruhanga finished with a gross of 141 after two rounds of action at the Tusker Malt sponsored four day prestigious tournament. Jinja born golfer Abbey Bagalana, who was chasing in second position on Wednesday fell to fourth with 149 gross and was sandwiched by Entebbe’s Henry Lujja who is second with 146 while Fort Portal’s Adolf Muhumuza is third with 148 completing the top five is Gideon Kagyenzi with 150 and Willy Kitata with the same score in join fifth.
In the professional section Deo Akope took charge of the lead with a three stroke lead of five under going into tomorrow’s next round last year’s winner and day one leader Jean Baptiste Hakizimana of Rwanda is two under with Uganda’s Herman Mutawe with two under while Kenya’s duo of Simon Ngigi and Jacob Okello are two under in join fourth in the tight race for the 25 million shillings that is at stake for the professionals.
The tournament concludes on Saturday with a grand prize giving ceremony and a splendid dinner and party.
