Uganda beat Tanzania and Rwanda to claim the second edition of the Uganda Invitational Regional Championships at Kampala International School of Uganda(KISU) at Bukoto on Sunday.
Uganda amassed 1,338 points over the two day swimming championships that had Tanzania and Rwanda participating with Kenya opting out.
Tanzania finished runners-up with 639 points while Rwanda was third with 52 points. “We are glad that we organised this event even with the difficulties of getting sponsors early for the championships,” Don Rukare Uganda Swimming Federation chairman said. “We had to host the event so that don’t lose it and am glad that Tanzania and Rwanda accepted our invitation.”
Uganda won the female events with 751 points together with the men’s events with a 587 points. Tanzania got 181 points in the female event and 456 in the men’s events while Rwanda had 15 and 37 points respectively for the female and men’s event.
The event was sponsored by MTN, Kabira International School of Uganda, Sadolin Paint, Madhavani Group next year’s edition is likely to be held in Kigali, Rwanda.
