Stars to grace MTN Marathon

Top athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea are expected to take part in the ninth edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon due November 27 at Kololo Airstrip.

“We expected the cream of athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea for this year’s edition,”  Dominic Otuchet, told Kawowo sports at the launch of the event at Serena Hotel this morning. “We have sent out invitations for the marathon and since we are also give out appearance fee for the star athletes to come we expect a good and strong field of star athletes.”

This year’s event was launched at Kampala Serena Hotel by MTN’s chief executive officer Themba Khumalo with this year’s theme being “What’s Your Reason to Run?.

Khumalo said MTN has always used the Kampala Marathon as an opportunity to involve thousands of Ugandans in charitable causes, which to date have collected close to 700 million shillings. This money has been used in a number of projects in Northern and Eastern Uganda through the Uganda Red Cross over the years.

This year’s winner will bag 16 million shillings in the 42 kilometer race which is a big increment than last year where the winner took back 8 million shillings.

According to MTN this year’s event will have winners getting bigger prize money in all the races that include also the 10 kilometer race and others.
