Tight race in national chess championship
Arthur Ssegwanyi and National Junior Chess Champion, Haruna Nsubuga are enjoying the lead with 4.5 points each after 5 rounds played in the National Chess Championship at Hotel Africana. to attain this feat, Ssegwanyi beat Simon Gonza as Nsubuga beat fellow youngster Samuel Masaga in the fifth round played on the morning of Saturday 12th November 2011.
Also on 4.5 points is Farouk Fauza who beat Rajab Kamoga to join the leaders. Closely following the leaders are former Olympian Emmanuel Mwaka Mathias Ssonko, each at 4 points. Mwaka beat Raphael Buti in the fifth round while Ssonko edged veteran Joe Kaamu.

Defending champion Harold Wanyama redeemed himself with a win against Mike Akabu to get to 3.5 points while FM Elijah Emojong beat Patrick Muwanga to get to 3 points.
The sixth round continues this afternoon with some intringuing must win games featuring Ssegwanyi against Farouk Fauza, Ssonko against Bob Bibasa, Nsubuga against Mwaka Emmanuel and Wanyama against Daniel Bagadde.
In the ladies category, Olympian Grace Kigeni is leading with maximum points, 4 out of 4 games played so far. She is closely followed by Grace Kigeni, Goretti Angolikin, phiona Mutesi and Christine Namaganda each at 3 ppoints.
