
Uganda’s pair of Dickens Otim and Ambrose Okello came from a set down to stun Kenya’s Patrick Owino and Silas Makiso in the finals of the men’s Club Pilsner International Beach Volleyball tournament at Lido Beach, Entebbe yesterday.
The Ugandan pair retained their pair against the Kenyans for a second year running pushing their record to 2-0 over their neighbours. In the game
the Ugandans fell to a stubborn Kenyans in the first set going down 20-15,but they clawed back in the next set 17-20 on the two occassions in the second and third set the Ugandan duo had to dig deep to pick up their game at one point trailing at 14-18 in the second set, but a partisan crowd inspired them as claimed the set and then wrapped up with a 24-22 win.
It was an all Ugandan final in the ladies game with Tabitha Mercy and Andrina Namata overcoming Sheila Buyingo and Maggie Nambasa 20-13,20-15 and giving them their first win in six years.
This year’s edition was the fifth and was organised by Uganda Beach Volleyball Council who have promised to spread the game of beach volleyball to most schools in the country this year’s edition attracted players from Kenya,Rwanda and Burundi. Nile Breweries sponsored the event under their brand Club Pilsner.
