
UPDF’s Flavia Namakula took three days to win the Pepsi Uganda Ladies Open Golf championship,but Uganda Sports Press Association members took two minutes to vote her the Nile Special Sports personality for the month of November at their monthly meeting held at Oasis restaurant, Lugogo this morning.
The 26 year old UPDF corporal was unanimously voted the sports star of the month after retaining the 58th edition of the Uganda Ladies Open Golf Championship after beating a strong field of lady golfers from Tanzania and Zimbabwe in a closely contested open that saw the golfers finish with almost similar scores over 54 holes.
Namakula beat Tanzania’s Idd Madina by five strokes with a score of 223 gross while her nearest rival returned with 228 and Zimbabwe’s Claire Minter had 230.
The sports scribes also commended Dorcus Inzikuru,Jane Suuto for winning the MTN half marathon and marathon last month.
Dickens Otim and Ambrose Okello, where also commended for winning the 2011 International beach volleyball tournament while Uganda Cranes,who finished runner up in the LG Cup in Morocco and Edwin Ekiring winner of the Botswana International where also mention at the monthly meeting. Reknown sports columnist Joseph Kabuleta, also gave a lecturer to the scribes on how too brand Ugandan sports.
