Kenyans arrive for CAA Rwabushenyi regional chess tournament

Jackson Mone was the first Kenyan chess player to arrive in Kampala on Thursday as seven are set to arrive today for the CAA sponsored Rwabushenyi Regional Memorial Chess Championship to be held from Dec 10-14 at Hotel Africana.

The others who are set to arrive today are Kenya’s Mathew Kanegeni, Githingi Hinga, Kevin Mutembei, Terrence Chazima and FIDE Artbiter Isaac Babu. Warren

Pollock, a Canadian based in Nairobi is also part of the contingent arriving today.

Four Tanzanians led by Nurdin Hassuhi are also expected to arrive today. The Ugandan challenge will be led by Harold Wanyama, Arthur Ssegwanyi, Grace Nsubuga and Shadrack Kantinti among others. Defending champion, Elijah Emojong will not take part as he is still in India where he was taking part in yet another tournament.

The tournament held in memory of the late Cyril Rwabushenyi, a former Civil Aviation Authority Director and one of teh founder members of the Uganda Chess Federation is sponsored by Civil Aviation Authority to the tune of shillings eight million five hundred thousand.

There will be an opening ceremony presided over by CAA’s Manager Public Affairs, Ignie Igunduura, who will also make the first move on Saturday 10th December at 9:45 am at Hotel Africana.
