Golola-Kanyomozi controversy

Drama still unfolds after the intercontinental fight that saw Andras Nagy and Golola Moses win and lose at the same time. Besides the bout itself, drama still continues as Golola and his brother Pastor Evans Mayambala allege that Patrick Kanyomozi, Golola’s promoter ran with all the proceeds from the fight with out paying the man himself his share.

This is some thing Kanyomozi denies and to confirm his denial,

he called a press conference on tuesday at 2PM at Oasis Resturant Lugogo which was attended by a sizeable number of media personalities together with OC Jinja Road Police Station, Dr. Karuhanga, Abel Rafsajan (Golola’s rightful manager) and the event’s MC Roger Mugisha.

Interestingly, Golola’s camp also held a press conference at 4:00pm at Hotel Africana on the same day. What transpired at both conferences is a story for another day but kawowo sports as usual dug deep and brings you the inside story.

THE BITTER TRUTH

Before the fight, Golola and Patrick sat down to agree on payments. Patrick proposed to Golola that he gets a lumpsum pay alleged to be UGX 30M and then Kwelli Productions (run by Patrick) takes the profits from the event. This was the same thing that happened even when Golola fought Sudanese Abdul Kadir earlier this year. Golola instead proposed that this time round, let the two parties share the profits in a ratio of 40% to 60%. Golola would take 40 percent and Kwelli Productions take 60 percent as he would be the man to risk investing money while Golola would just put the body in the ring.

In the signed agreement, Pinnacle security, Hotel Africana and Uganda Police would provide security as well as control the gates. To be precise, the so called Kanyamas were ruled out. On the eve of the event, Golola’s brother Pastor Evans Mayambala approached Kweli Production and asked them to hand anything concerning gates to him which Patrick refuted as it would violate the contract but Mayambala insisted and went on to hire over 25 kanyamas who partly controlled the gates. These Kanyamas even went on to dismiss Abel Rafsajan, Golola’s manager.

These same Kanyamas allowed in many people without tickets through bribes. This was evidenced in the VIP section which filled beyond capacity. As if that was not enough, Mayambala asked Kanyomozi to avail him with 500 invitations for Golola’s people to attend the event. When Patrick consulted Golola, the man just requested for 25 invitations which the former handed to him. This didn’t go down well with Mayambala. On the day of the fight, Pastor Mayambala almost stopped Golola from entering the ring due to finance related issues but, the fight later took place.

EXPENSES AND PROFITS

The following days after the bout, it was time to balance the books. Reliable sources indicate that the bout earned a gross of UGX 75M some thing hard to believe depending on the crowd. However, this tallied perfectly with printed tickets which the promoter had before the fight presented to Uganda Kick boxing federation (UKBF). Present at a meeting to ascertain expenses and profits were among others Patrick Kanyomozi, Pastor Mayambala – who represented Golola, OC jinja Road Police Station, Abbas Ssekilime – chairman UKBF. These were joined by auditors who verified the accounts. Records show that a profit of 11 million was made.

PROFIT SHARING

This is the moment that sparked off the real controversy. As per the agreement, Golola was to recieve 4.4m while Patrick took the remaining portion. This prompted Golola’s representative to disagree and instead raised the issue that Golola takes 70% which wasn’t any where in the agreement. When this failed to materialize, the man of God stormed the meeting. This prompted Kanyomozi to call the man who is ‘not a joking subject’ but astonishingly, its the pastor that answered the call and he warned that Golola was bleeding and couldn’t talk to any one. To simplify the matter, Patrick accepted the pastor’s demand. However, the man even hardened by insisting that now the promoter must pay 30m on top of 70% profit. This is where even the slightest of understanding that was in place disappeared. Sources indicate that the 11 million shs is in safe custody of Jinja Road Police Station.

GOLOLA NOT LOCKED IN HOTEL: Though media reports indicated the Kick boxer was locked in Hotel due to non payment, this was false according to Africana MD, Hajji Haruna kibirige. Besides, he concurs that Golola’s promoter paid up all the expenses until the fight was done and that Golola was responsible for paying his other bills.
