Just hours to the start of the inaugural women’s ICC Africa T20 tournament, Uganda’s captain Barbara Mukankusi has called for caution ahead of the tournament which kicks off on Friday morning.
“We are favorites as hosts but we wont take anyone for granted. Uganda has played some of the countries before but that doesn’t count for anything now. Fans expect a lot from us and we hope to deliver it to them” Said Barbara at the captains’ press briefing this morning at Lugogo.
Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and hosts Uganda were already in camp by this morning. Only Kenya and Tanzania where yet to report but will definitely be in the country for the tournament.
First up at 09:00 AM tomorrow morning at Lugogo will be seasoned cricket side Kenya taking on a Nigerian side that promises to rely on basics above experience to help them do well at the tournament.
At Kyambogo cricket oval, Tanzania, another of the likely champions will take on Namibia who have been in and out of African women’s cricket at 09:00AM.
All attention will then shift to Lugogo at 02:00 PM where Uganda will be opening its account against an untested Sierra Leone team who beat their men’s national team during one of the warm up games.
