Emojong on Fire in India

Uganda’s FM Elijah Emojong has won the first four games in the ongoing Piloo Modi Open Chess Tournament in India to put himself on course for the top honours in the event that started on 24th December 2011 and ends on 31st December 2011.

Emojong has so far beaten Avinash Yaday (rated 1256), Sushil Kumar Srivastava (rated 1457), Virendra Kumar Girsa (rated 1810) and Shersingh

Chauvan (rated 1902).

All the players he has played in the event so far have a much lower rating than his of 2111. In the fifth round that is currently ongoing, Emojong was in for a tougher challenge against India’s Junaid Ahmed (rated 2051).

After four games, 18 players out of the 150 participating in the event had all won their games and the tie break ranking had him in 15th position out of 150. Most of the participants in the event are from India, with one player from Uganda and two from the United Arab Emirates.

The event is organised by the Chess Association of India with lots of cash prizes at stake for the winners.
