Tunisia, Libya, Sudan and Cote d’Ivoire gear-up for Afcon quest on DStv’s SuperSport With the quest of becoming African football’s new leader looming large on the 16 participants in the 2012 African Cup of Nations, Tunisia, Sudan, Libya and Cote d’Ivoire will get to test each other’s strengths days
before the showdown later this month with a series of friendlies to be broadcast live on DStv’s SuperSport.
Of the three match-ups, the one of majority interest is Libya’s encounter with Cote d’Ivoire (live on SS4 and SS9 from 3.55pm CAT). The two could potentially meet in the latter stages of the Afcon tournament.
The two sides have had a turbulent 2011 which saw both of their former leaders being ousted in a brutal way Cote d’Ivoire’s Laurent Gbago, was captured by forces loyal to current leader Alassane Quattara as they overthrew him from power after failing to accept defeat in their country’s elections while Muammar Ghaddafi, was brutal captured and murdered by NTC rebels as he was ousted from power.
Against all odds the Mediterranean Knights qualified for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea after a year in which the team almost ceased to exist due to a civil uprising which meant all home fixtures had to be played in neutral venues.
