In Uganda today, many things may seem to be negligible but they exist and particularly men’s netball or women’s football. As the Crested Cranes prepare to raid and garner DR. Congo, FUFA is looking beyond this in a bigger picture.
Whereas the men’s football is having egos, bickering and friction among the sport’s leaders, it is not the case for the women. According to the FUFA
official in charge of women’s football, Meddie Serwadda, they are focused on improving this sector of football. “We are working on a better frame work and transition in women’s football” said the FUFA official.
The women’s league is already on course around the country and it will begin in Kampala next month. Inter regional football which has fed the Crested Cranes with great talent is to be strengthened among the 6 regions of Kampala, Buganda, Western, Northern, Eastern and NorthWestern.
Grassroot programmes like girls’ football at primary level is to gain much more attention this year in all the selected 14 municipalities. They include the 5 divisions from Kampala, Bushenyi, Gulu, Jinja, Wakiso, Mbale to mention but a few.
Secondary school football remains a target for young talent though FUFA lacks major sponsors. The last secondary school football tourney which was hosted by Nabumali was won by Kawempe Muslim school. “The participating schools contribute 50% to the organisation of the tournaments” said Mr. Serwadda but FUFA will embark on better strategies and moves.
