National rally champion Susan “Super Lady” Muwonge is poised to claim the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association Sports personality of the year 2011 at the grand gala slated for Friday at Golf Course Hotel.
She will become the first woman to win the grandest prize in sports since athlete Dorcus Inzikuru did it seven years ago. However she will
have to beat athletes Moses Kipsiro and Annet Negesa, a two-time winner and badminton ace Edwin Ekiring.
Kipsiro is also in the running for the 2010 gong and could kill two birds on one night. Since the awards inception in 1974, women have won it on six of the 24 occasions with Inzikuru contributing three of those – 2005, 2002 and 2000.
She Cranes (Netball) won it in 1988, Rossette Musoke (table tennis) took the top diadem in 1993 and athlete Catherine Webombesa beat all in 1997.
