Bangi avoids seeds in Uganda International

Uganda’s Shamim Bangi, has avoided the seeded players in the women’s draw at the Uganda International Badminton championship that swings into action on Thursday at Sharing Hall,Nsambya.

Six Ugandan female badminton players will have to overcome seeded players in the first round that starts on Friday if they are too battle for a slot in the quarter-finals or semi-finals.

“I am using the tournament to gain points and also gearing for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro,” Bangi said. “I fancy my chances more in the women’s and mixed doubles because I have a strong draw which I believe is going to be hard to over come however am ready for any outcome.”

Bangi has been drawn against unseeded Egyptian Tawfeek Badie. This year’s edition has a total of 89 participants from 23 nations in the biggest entry.

The Uganda International is the biggest event on the local badminton calendar and this year is the fifth edition.
