In what has been a spectacle of day two of the second round of the Bell Uganda Super League, new comers Busia-Hoima have stunned Maroons coming from a goal down to beat the home team 3-2. Otai Peter gave Maroons a half time lead and the Luzira based side should have doubled their lead in the 53rd minute but Akena Brian missed a penalty.
The miss was immediately punished as Mugabi Martin equalised for the visitors in the 61st minute. The visitors went on to miss a penalty in the 61st which would have given them a rare lead. As both teams continued to attack, Sylvester Okello saw red in the 72nd minute for a foul on a Busia forward in the
forbidden area and Isiko Ayub converted from the sport awarded by referee Peter Kutegana.
With 18 minutes left to play, George Abege levelled matters for Maroons via a well headed goal. Both teams seemed to have settled for a draw as time on the clock read 92 minutes but suddenly, a forth penalty of the match and the third for the visitors saw them walk away victorious after Isiko Ayub scored to start the league with a brace. The third penalty didn’t go well with Maroons coach Asaph Mwebaze as he branded centre referee a cheat.
In Jinja, Steven Bengo’s 52nd minute strike ensured Mike Mutebi’s SC. Villa left Kakindu with a win over hosts Bidco. It was a fairly contested game with both teams displaying nice piece of football. Bidco had the better of the first 45 minutes but failed to turn dominance into goals.
Villa had no notable shot on target in the first half. Debutant Ssembatya who started in the place of injured captain Isaac Kirabira had a game to forget and was replaced by Ronald Muganga with just half an hour of the game played. After recess, the Jogoos went out for offensive and Patrick Ssenfuka who came on for inefficient Robert Achema had an energetic display.
In the 54th minute, Bengo’s moment of brilliance brought a good save from the Bidco custodian but Ssenfuka’s resultant kick yielded the goal as Bengo neatly controlled a miscued shot from Ssemakula, turned and placed the ball beyond the keeper’s reach. Muganga should have had a brace but failed to net with only the keeper to beat on two occassions and was withdrawn for Ssekiziyivu with 5 minutes to go.
Speaking to Kawowo sports after the game, Villa manager was impressed that his boys laboured for a win but wasn’t happy with the way they missed chances. “It was nice winning away from home but we should have done better than scoring one. Muganga should have had a hat trick but thats the problem with Ugandan players, they don’t want to punish opponents when they take a one goal lead. The only positive is that the boys laboured for a win”, Mutebi said. The game was characterised by tear gas at half time to cool rowdy Villa fans that were throwing insults at Police men.
At Lugazi, champions URA beat UTODA 3-0 to go top of the table. Strikers from Robert Ssentogo, Benson Ociti and Augustine Nsumba sealed victory for the tax men. Click here to view the current league table after today’s matches or view all scores and fixtures here
