Uganda Christian University (UCU) men and women failed to defend their Makerere open Championship over the weekend. The UCU doves lost to league champions Ndejje University 2-0 though they had earlier ejected KCCA 2-1 in the semis. The Doves under former Ndejje coach Protus Soita had dismissed KAVC with the same margin.
The men’s final couldn’t end due to bad light when KAVC and Nemo Stars were tied on one all. Nemo stars had seen off Sport-S 2-1 in a very tense match while KAVC defeated Old Kampala Volleyball Club 2-0 in the other semifinal. The two will face-off on March 17 at 3.00PM at Makerere volleyball grounds.
2011 unbeaten Schools Champions Trust High School Kabbubu were humbled by Katikamu 2-0 in the girls’ final. Trust High tried to petition Katikamu’s use of four foreign players in the tournament, though the school’s commission is yet to pronounce itself on that matter. Mary’s Kitende took on Kinnawa High School in the boy’s final which they won 2-1 in a very tense final.
