Drama and circus erupted in a meeting at Oasis restaurant Lugogo on Saturday after National Council of Sports (NCS) Assistant General Secretary (technical), Timothy Magala Semakula failed to meet terms with netball stakeholders. Magala, who wanted Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) constitution to be amended, left the meeting after delegates disagreed with his proposal.
Invitational letters to the venue which were signed by Annette Kisomose indicated the aim of the assembly was to have executive elections, one of the fundamental goals of the ad-hoc committee NCS put up last year. This furthermore exposed a missing link between Ncs and UNF.
With the assembly divided, Fred Mugerwa who has been in netball for 26 years and the other sport’s die hards resolved and formed a five man committee to negotiate with NCS at a later date.
Gay Barigye, Semusu Nasejje, William Mwanja, Lucy Anoo and James Onzima, all regional representatives formed the team to meet NCS. “Netball is still on track, communication was lacking because NCS did not inform us that there were elections and the letters said otherwise but we still respect them” said Mwanja.
“I cannot jump to conclusions but I may not rule it out (ban) and I do not think we will listen to the five man team set to liaise with us” said Magala on UNF’s future.
